The story centers on Duke Reynal von Fenicaesar (also called Raynal), a powerful noble in the Empire, heroics under his belt, tucked deep into the Emperor’s confidence. But he hides a secret: he is intersex, having both male and female reproductive organs.
Raynal desires an heir, so he takes a sabbatical (or a leave) from his duties to try to produce a child. However, it turns out that ordinary “seed” (partners) are not enough to impregnate him — the usual methods don’t succeed.
So he begins searching for someone with “superior seed” who can father a child with him. Along the way, he has mistresses / sexual partners as part of this quest. However, complications arise — emotionally and physically — as he navigates relationships, desire, consent, and power, and he slowly realizes that the “perfect partner” may be closer than he initially thought.
